DOCUMENTARY SUMMARY: The images of Puerto Rico in this documentary bring on such nostalgia for the island. It shares Vilma Luz’s journey as the daughter of a battered woman. Vilma makes a final promise to fix the home that her beloved mother Maria built as a secret refuge to flee her abuser. 

This documentary chronicles Vilma’s story as a daughter fulfilling a promise to her beloved late mother. Sadly, it did not materialize in time because Vilma’s mother lost her battle to cancer. However, this daughter did not give up. Retiring from teaching, Vilma is fixing La Casa de Maria to create a publishing house in the town of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico. This documentary shares her journey as a daughter doing all she can to make that final promise a reality.  Hurricane Maria and a global pandemic couldn’t stop this tenacious daughter.

Director Joe Negrón did a phenomenal job! Vilma Luz is grateful that she had the opportunity to collaborate with this remarkable and talented soul!

As the executive producer of this project, Dr. Caban is proud that she broke through the struggles to make this documentary a reality. It’s a daughter’s journey rematriating to her mother’s motherland of Puerto Rico !!

The final chapter in Vilma’s memoir, The Heart of an Advocate, is captured in this documentary.
